Essay 1 workshop

Pair up.

Share Google docs of your drafts.

Each writer will then:
  • Briefly summarize your argument for your partner.
  • Briefly discuss what you believe to be the strengths of your paper.
  • Explain what aspects of the paper what you'd like feedback on, and why. Be detailed and specific, and be sure to focus on (1) your intro/thesis; (2) your analyses; and (3) your arrangement.
  • Avoid yes/no questions and questions that ask for an evaluation. Instead, focus on getting concrete suggestions for revision.
Read one another's drafts and start writing your letters. Your letter to your partner should appear (in a different font) at the bottom of his or her Google doc, with your full name.

Each suggestion you make gets its own paragraph, in which you clearly describe specifically what you’re suggesting, explain why you believe it will significantly strengthen the draft, and explain how to implement the suggestion.

Again, write your letter at the bottom of your partner's draft. Don't forget to sign your full name at the bottom of your letter. Letters are due 24 hours from the end of class.
